ST. LOUIS, Aug. 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU) announced today that the company has named veteran mining executive Glenn Kellow to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer. He will report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gregory H. Boyce and serve as a member of Peabody's executive leadership team.

Kellow will have executive responsibility for all aspects of the company's global operations including safety, production, sales/marketing, environmental, productivity improvement, engineering and planning. Reporting to Kellow will be President of the Americas Kemal Williamson, Chairman of Australia Eric Ford, President of Australia Charles Meintjes, President of Asia/Trading Chris Hagedorn and Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer Jeane Hull. Kellow will relocate from Perth, Australia to Peabody's global headquarters in St. Louis.
Kellow has most recently served as President of the multinational Aluminum and Nickel business for BHP Billiton, the world's largest mining company, where he directed companies responsible for $7 billion in revenues with 16,000 employees and contractors. Kellow has held a number of executive, operating and financial positions in coal, base metals, steel and petroleum businesses. Over the years, he has held multiple posts in the United States, Australia and South America.
Kellow's coal industry experience includes responsibilities as President and Chief Operating Officer of New Mexico Coal where he directed underground and surface coal mines. He worked extensively with state, federal and tribal stakeholders and received recognition from the New Mexico House of Representatives for his services to the community. Kellow also is a former director of the World Coal Association and the National Mining Association.
Kellow was the Chairman of Worsley Alumina (Australia), Chairman of Mozal (Mozambique), and Vice Chairman of the Nickel Institute, and is a member of the advisory board of the Energy and Minerals Institute for the University of Western Australia in Perth. He is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Wharton Business School. He holds a master's degree in Business Administration and a bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Newcastle.
