ST. LOUIS

Peabody Energy today announced several management changes for its Generation Development Group, which oversees Peabody's activities associated with electricity generation projects.

Jacob A. Williams has been named vice president of generation development, directing creation of coal-based partnerships on Peabody's land and reserve holdings nationwide. Williams, who reports to Executive Vice President of Corporate Development Roger B. Walcott Jr., has played an integral role in strategic development of Peabody's proposed Thoroughbred Energy Campus in Western Kentucky. He also oversees creation of other generation opportunities.

Previously, Williams was vice president of commercial services, a position he held since 1999 when he joined the company. Williams has 15 years of experience in generation planning and power marketing. A native of Springfield, Ill., he has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He will continue to maintain his office in St. Louis.

Dianna K. Tickner has been named vice president of generation development for the Thoroughbred Energy Campus, also reporting to Walcott. In this new role, Tickner will be responsible for working with the project generation partner to oversee design, development, permitting and power marketing activities for the 1,500-megawatt coal-based power plant and adjacent underground coal mining facility. Thoroughbred Energy is expected to begin operating by the summer of 2005.

Peabody anticipates managing initial permitting and related mine operations for the campus and is seeking a partner to manage plant construction, operations and power marketing.

Previously, Tickner was president of Peabody COALTRADE, Inc., a position she had held since 1999. She joined Peabody in 1996 and has held a series of senior management and sales positions within Peabody COALSALES Company.

Raised in Alton, Ill., Tickner has a bachelor's degree in mining engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Montana at Missoula. She is a registered professional engineer and a graduate of the Executive Program of the Darden School of Business Management. Tickner will maintain her office in St. Louis.

Lars W. Scott has been named director of generation development responsible for exploring coal-based generation opportunities for Peabody. He reports to Williams. Scott joined Peabody as a management associate in 1997 and has served as a market development manager for Peabody COALSALES and a senior associate for mining support.

A native of Goodland, Kan., Scott has bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from Kansas State University. He also holds an MBA in finance from Indiana University. He will continue to maintain his office in St. Louis.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and 2.5 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
