Peabody Energy today announced Terry G. Traylor has been named operations manager for Big Sky Coal Company near Colstrip, Mont., effective May 31. Traylor succeeds Robert D. Boone, who is leaving the company to pursue other interests.

Traylor is responsible for the overall management of Big Sky Coal Company, one of the nation's safest surface mines. He brings nearly 30 years of Peabody experience in surface mining operations, primarily in the Midwest. Previously, Traylor was a production manager for the North Antelope/Rochelle operation in the Powder River Basin, the nation's largest and most productive mine. Traylor attended Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg.

"I would like to thank Bob for his many years of service," said Larry H. Fox, group executive for Powder River Basin operations. "He has been a loyal and dedicated employee, serving in a variety of management roles at numerous Peabody locations during his 25 years. We wish him the best."

Big Sky Mine was opened in 1968 and shipped approximately 1.7 million tons of coal during the year ended March 31, 2001. The mine employs about 60 people and has an annual payroll exceeding $2.8 million.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and 2.5 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
