Peabody Energy today announced that John W. Hanekamp has been promoted to vice president of Eastern sales and trading for its Peabody COALTRADE, Inc. subsidiary.

In this role, Hanekamp will be responsible for domestic steam coal trading and brokerage activities and development of trading-related value-added products and services in the Eastern United States. Hanekamp will be reporting to Peabody COALTRADE President Stephen L. Miller. He replaces Randy D. Campbell who has left the company to pursue other opportunities in the energy industry.

Hanekamp has 20 years of experience in the transportation and commodity trading industry and joined Peabody in June 1999 as director of transportation and business development for Peabody COALSALES Company. He most recently served as vice president of sales for COALSALES.

Hanekamp holds a bachelor's degree in agricultural economics from the University of Kentucky and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and 2.5 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
