The board of directors of Peabody Energy today declared a regular quarterly dividend on its common stock of $0.10 per share. The dividend, Peabody Energy's first as a publicly traded company, is payable on August 22, 2001, to holders of record on August 1, 2001.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company. Its coal fuels more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and more than 2 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
