Peabody Names Williamson Midwest Group Executive

Peabody Energy today announced that Kemal Williamson has been named group executive for Midwest operations, reporting to Richard M. Whiting, president and chief operating officer. Williamson will have executive responsibility for underground and surface mining operations in the Illinois Basin. Peabody's active Midwest operations include Peabody Coal Company's Camp Complex and Gibraltar Complex, Patriot Coal Company and Highland Mining Company, all operating in Western Kentucky.

Williamson, who has more than two decades of experience in mining engineering and operations, joined Peabody as director of land management in 2000. Prior to joining Peabody, he held a variety of mining operations positions in Wyoming and Australia.

Williamson holds a bachelor of science degree in mining engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and more than 2 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
