Sevem Named Vice President for Resource Management

Peabody Energy today announced James C. Sevem has been named vice president for resource management with executive responsibilities for Peabody's 9.3 billion tons of coal reserves and 300,000-plus acres of owned surface lands. Sevem will report to Roger B. Walcott, executive vice president-corporate development.

Sevem, who previously served as senior counsel for Peabody, has nearly 20 years of experience practicing law. He joined the company in 1977 as a financial management associate and served as director of materials management for five years prior to becoming part of Peabody's legal department.

Sevem holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the St. Louis University School of Business, a juris doctorate from St. Louis University School of Law, and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Sevem replaces Kemal Williamson, who has been named group executive for Midwest operations.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and more than 2 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
