Peabody Energy Appoints Sutton, Meek to External Affairs Positions

Peabody Energy today announced today that Beth C. Sutton has been named director of public affairs and Joseph C. Meek has been named director of investor relations. Both report to Vice President of External Affairs Vic Svec.

Sutton's responsibilities include media and external relations for the company's Western operations as well as support in other corporate-wide communication projects and tribal relations.

Sutton previously served as manager of corporate affairs. She joined Peabody as communications manager in 1995. Her 15-year career in corporate communications includes management positions in the banking and human service industries.

Sutton graduated from Northern Arizona University with a bachelor of science degree in journalism and extended study in photojournalism.

Meek is responsible for supporting the company's investor communications programs, including directing investor outreach initiatives, message and materials development, ownership research, and disclosure practices.

Meek's experience includes more than two decades of financial relations positions. He joined Peabody in 1998 and most recently served as assistant treasurer. His prior experience includes 19 years of treasury and corporate finance positions in the commercial banking industry.

Meek holds a bachelor of arts degree from Carroll College and an MBA from Marquette University, both in Wisconsin.
