Peabody Energy today announced that Deron L. Upton has joined Peabody COALTRADE, Inc. as vice president of trading.

In this role, Upton is responsible for eastern domestic steam coal trading and brokerage activities and the development of trading-related value-added products and services in the Big Sandy trading area. Upton reports to Peabody COALTRADE Vice President John W. Hanekamp.

Upton has 13 years of experience in the energy industry, most recently as vice president - sales and trading with FirstEnergy Fuel Marketing. He also worked for Black Hills Coal Network, Electric Fuels Corporation and Dayton Power & Light Co., in various coal procurement/sales capacities.

Upton holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and an MBA from the University of Dayton.
