Peabody Energy today received the U.S. Department of the Interior's Mineral Revenues Stewardship Award for accurate and timely reporting of production and royalty data for the company's federal and Indian mineral leases. The award was presented today at the U.S. Department of the Interior's Fourth Annual Industry Awards Ceremony in Houston.
"Peabody is appreciative of the recognition from the U.S. Department of the Interior for outstanding financial reporting," said Rick Navarre, executive vice president and chief financial officer. "Our commitment to integrity and professionalism in everything we do carries through to our financial reporting, and we will maintain that commitment in all future activities."
The award recognizes exceptional financial reporting reflected by low error rates, timely payments and responsiveness to compliance. Such reporting is associated with Peabody's surface mines in Wyoming, Montana, Arizona and Colorado. Last year, these operations shipped more than 120 million tons of coal and generated more than $250 million in state, federal and tribal taxes and royalties, benefiting state and reservation economies.
Peabody also participated in a three-year effort to help re-engineer the Interior Department's Minerals Management reporting system to an Internet- based function. The new system, which was completed last year, is simpler and more efficient, benefiting the agency and operators who use it.
