Peabody Energy today announced L. Brent Stottlemyre has joined Peabody as vice president - finance and controller, reporting to Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Richard A. Navarre.

Stottlemyre has 17 years of financial experience with Ernst & Young LLP in St. Louis and has served as partner at Ernst & Young since 1997. He has been serving major mining and commercial clients, including Peabody, since 1990.

Stottlemyre holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Truman State University in Kirksville. He replaces Mark N. Schroeder, who was recently named vice president of corporate development for Peabody.

Reporting to Stottlemyre is Corporate Controller Michael C. Crews, Director of Financial Planning Gary T. Kacich; Director of Controller Operations Jeffrey A. Maher; and a Director of Financial Analysis function to be named.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest coal company. Its coal products fuel more than 9 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and more than 2 percent of worldwide electricity generation.
