Peabody Energy today announced it has named Guy Brad Brown Group Executive for Southwest Operations, reporting to Group Vice President of Operations Kemal Williamson. Brown has responsibility for safety, engineering, environmental, compliance and financial activities associated with Peabody's operations in Arizona and New Mexico.

A 30-year Peabody veteran, Brown previously served as Operations Manager for Lee Ranch Coal Company and El Segundo Coal Company, overseeing development of the newly commissioned El Segundo Mine, the first greenfield mine brought on line in New Mexico in a generation.

"Brad has a unique depth of knowledge about Southwest markets and customer needs," said Williamson. "His experience in leading large-scale, safe, low- cost operations will be valuable as Peabody continues to fuel record electricity needs in the region."

Reporting to Brown are Southwest Safety Director William E. Beaver, Group Controller Amy G. Hetzer, Arizona Operations Manager C. Scott Williams and a to-be-named Operations Manager for the Lee Ranch and El Segundo mines.

Brown joined Peabody in 1976 and has held a series of increasingly responsible management positions in safety and operations at the Black Mesa and Kayenta Mines in Arizona and the former Seneca Mine in Colorado. He has a bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Kentucky and completed the Darden Graduate School of Business executive program.

Peabody Energy is the world's largest private-sector coal company, with 2007 sales of 238 million tons and $4.6 billion in revenues. Its coal products fuel approximately 10 percent of all U.S. electricity generation and 2 percent of worldwide electricity.
