Peabody Energy Clarifies 2008 Western U.S. Sales Volumes

Peabody Energy today clarified its 2008 Western U.S. sales volumes following incorrect mine production data reported on the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) web site.

The company recorded Western U.S. sales volumes for the fourth quarter and full year of 2008 totaling 45.4 million tons and 169.7 million tons, respectively, compared with comparable prior-year Western U.S. volumes of 42.5 million tons and 161.4 million tons.

Actual fourth quarter and full year 2008 production data at the three affected operations were, respectively: Twentymile (2.1 and 8.0 million tons), Caballo (7.8 and 31.2 million tons) and Rawhide (4.9 and 18.4 million tons).

The MSHA-reported production information has been revised accordingly and should be available on the MSHA public database next week. Overall sales volumes will be reported in the company's earnings release on Jan. 27, 2009.
