Peabody Energy Announces New Leadership Appointments in Colorado

ST. LOUIS, Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Peabody Energy (NYSE: BTU) has named E. Jason Davis as General Manager – Colorado Operations. Davis has executive responsibility for Peabody's Twentymile Mine near Steamboat Springs, as well as development of any future operations and coal reserves in Colorado.

Twentymile is the largest mine in Colorado and among the largest underground mines in the United States. Davis reports to Charles Meintjes, Group Executive – Midwest and Colorado.

"Jason brings a great depth of surface and underground mining knowledge, as well engineering and safety experience gained in coal regions across the United States," says Meintjes. "He has continued to demonstrate leadership skills and assumed roles of increasing responsibility since joining Peabody a decade ago."

Most recently, Davis was Superintendent – Operations at Twentymile Mine. His previous experience also includes roles as Project Engineer – Continuous Improvement for Peabody's Midwest Operations; Production Supervisor and Project Engineer at the company's former operations in western Kentucky; and Mining Engineer at former Peabody mines in West Virginia. Davis joined Peabody in 2001. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  

Succeeding Davis as Superintendent – Operations is Patrick Sollars, who has more than two decades of coal mining experience at Twentymile. Most recently, Sollars served as Assistant Superintendent – Operations and has held engineering, production and maintenance roles across the operation. Sollars has a Bachelor of Science degree in mining engineering from the Montana College of Mineral Sciences and Technology.
