ST. LOUIS, May 17, 2018 -- Peabody President and Chief Executive Officer Glenn Kellow was named Chairman of the World Coal Association (WCA) today.
“I look forward to working with the global industry as we approach the challenges and opportunities ahead,” Glenn said. “The WCA plays a vital part in deepening understanding of the role coal plays in the global energy mix and supporting greater use of advanced coal technologies, including today’s high-efficiency, low-emissions coal-fueled generation technologies and carbon capture, use and storage.”
The WCA is a global network for the coal industry, comprised of major international coal producers. The organization works to demonstrate and gain acceptance for the fundamental role coal plays in achieving a sustainable, lower carbon energy future.
The WCA’s views strongly align with Peabody’s on key industry issues, including the need for the world to embrace a true “all of the above” energy strategy that recognizes the benefits and limitations of each fuel and the role of advanced coal technologies in providing affordable and reliable energy.
WCA Chief Executive Benjamin Sporton said it is an exciting time for the organization.
“I am confident that with Glenn as Chair we will continue to demonstrate coal’s role as a vital strategic resource and further enhance our advocacy for low emission coal technologies,” Benjamin added. “Glenn is an experienced industry leader, with a deep understanding of the coal industry. He has all the qualities to help lead WCA to its next stage of development.”
